PROJECT TITLE : EVALUATING INTEGRATION OF TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS IN CHINATOWN FROM PLACE IDENTITY'S PERSPECTIVE ALONG PETALING STREET
CHINATOWN around the world are famous for their rich distinctive culture and their immensely unique architectures. Our main goal for this specific project is to determine whether all of these are being portrayed correctly in our Malaysian Chinatown, PETALING STREET KUALA LUMPUR.
To scope down a little, our group focused particularly on the TRADITIONAL CHINESE ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS that are supposed to be applied in a Chinatown.
PAIFANG (ARCHWAY)
ROOF
FACADE
STREETLAMP
Our team took on the challenge to conduct research in a larger scale, on Chinatown in western countries, as well as Asian countries. We compared Petaling Street's elements with the Chinatown in San Francisco USA,as well as the one closer to home, Singapore.

RESEARCH POSTER :
PRESENTATION SLIDES :
It opened my eyes to acknowledge architectural details around me especially in Petaling Street. It made me appreciate more of what we already have and amplifies on things that I can help to improve as an architect in the future. I also learned that architecture should always reflect on the place identity and the culture that was embedded in a specific place, that in fact is the beauty of architecture.
This project essentially intensified my researching skills and allowed me to understand the importance of conducting case studies, as it really helps us as architecture students to kick start whatever we were assigned to do or design in any projects. Being able to have constructive references in hand is very vital for us to avoid mistakes and amplify good intentions, other than that we can ensure that we are on the right path as we already know things that we should avoid through the evidences.
